Council calls for Port Campbell project tenders
Published on 18 May 2022
Corangamite Shire Council has called for tenders for the Port Campbell Town Centre Revitalisation Project.
The package includes works on the Great Ocean Road roundabout, traffic calming, Tregea Street and the Morris Street footpath.
Following the announcement State and Federal Government funding for the Port Campbell Town Centre Revitalisation Project, Council advertised for tenders in December 2021 with the tender open until 11 February 2022. Unfortunately, no tenders were received.
Council sought feedback from companies who downloaded the tender documents, but chose not to reply, to find out why they did not submit a tender. This feedback cited market conditions, the release date of the tender, COVID outbreaks during the tender period limiting the ability of the business to respond and staff shortages. Based on this feedback the Tender has been split into different sections to allow smaller companies to bid.
Tenders are now being sought from suitably qualified and experienced contractors to undertake the 2022 Works Package. A tender for the 2023 works package will be issued separately.
Coastal Ward Councillor Jamie Vogels said it was great to see the contract go out to tender again.
“This contract was advertised in December but unfortunately no tenders were received.
“Council officers got in touch with the companies that downloaded the tender documents to find out why they didn’t make a submission.
“They cited market conditions, the release date of the tender and COVID-19 staff shortages that limited their ability to respond.
“Based on that feedback the original request for tender has been split into different sections to allow smaller companies to bid.
“This project has been a long time coming with a lot of to and fro with the community and numerous changes to the plans based on their feedback.
“All going well, we hope the contract will be awarded by June and the first physical works can finally start in November.
“The 2023 works will involve Lord Street and the foreshore. Council is still completing work on that package and the tender will go out later this year.”
The project will improve the amenity, function and safety of the town.
It will create a pedestrian friendly destination with wider footpaths and better connections between the centre, headlands and Twelve Apostles.
Tenders close at 5 pm, Friday 17 June.
